Disc Golf comes to Jacobs Camp
May. 9, 2013
This summer we will open our 18-hole Disc Golf Course.

We are SO excited to be bringing Disc Golf to Jacobs Camp!

Unfamiliar with the sport? According to the Professional Disc Golf Association, "Disc golf is played much like traditional golf. Instead of a ball and clubs, however, players use a flying disc, or Frisbee®. The sport was formalized in the 1970's, and shares with "ball golf" the object of completing each hole in the fewest number of strokes."

Our new 18-hole course was designed by Daniel Boutte, a registered landscape architect with Barge, Waggoner, Sumner, and Cannon, Inc., of Knoxville, Tennessee. (Daniel is originally from Baton Rouge.) Click here for an article Daniel wrote on disc course design - he's a real expert!

Our new course makes great use of the camp property, and takes players into areas of camp that even our caretaker Johnny Johnson had never been before. The course itself has some challenging holes, with both blue and red tees, and each hole is uniquely beautiful in its own way. The fairways also serve as a beautiful walking trail throughout the camp.

We look forward to seeing our campers and staff members trying out this new addition to Jacobs Camp!
