Gary Brandt named Senior Assistant Director of Jacobs Camp

By Jonathan “J.C.” Cohen, Camp Director

I am very pleased to announce that Gary Brandt will be promoted from the position of Assistant Director to the position of Senior Assistant Director of the URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp, effective April 1st.

The decision was made in consultation with the senior leadership of the URJ Camping System, and the senior leadership of the URJ – all of whom agreed that Gary was more than worthy of this change in status.

Gary is about to complete his fourth year as Assistant Director of Jacobs Camp; as he moves into his fifth year, he will become one of longest serving “second-in-command” the camp has ever had. He will also be the first person to ever hold the “Senior Assistant” title at Jacobs Camp.

Many know that Gary has a lifelong connection to Jacobs Camp. His parents met here; he started attending as a baby when his father served as camp doctor; he went on to participate in every one of our camper programs, and then went on to serve on staff for a number of years.

What I have valued most about his service is that he is continually striving to learn more, do more, and grow more; he never settles, seeking instead to perform better and to become a better professional in the process.  That is why his responsibilities have continued to expand over the years he has been here; and, it is also why the folks on the North American level have found ways to get Gary involved in various national programs and initiatives.

Although Gary’s formal responsibilities won’t change dramatically, his involvement in all areas of camp management will expand as we tap even more into his diverse skill set and professional experience.

Please join me and our entire Professional Staff in wishing Gary a hearty Mazel Tov! Feel free to reach out to Gary directly: gbrandt@urj.org.
