Jacob Pleasure: Counselor of the Year
Aug. 5, 2012

Every year, The URJ Henry S. Jacobs Camp staff votes for the counselor who, according to his or her peers, did truly outstanding work over the course of the summer.  Announced during 2012 Closing Day Staff Banquet, Jacob Pleasure proved to show exceptional dedication to his campers and the “Jacobs Magic!”

Jacob is the son of Patricia Greenfield & Robert Pleasure of Silver Spring, MD.  He is an entering sophomore at Kenyon University in Gambier, Ohio.

Jacob’s peers shared powerful testimonies on their ballots.  Comments included: "As a first-time counselor and member of the Jacobs family, he has set a new standard for first year counselors.”  “Jacob has incredible energy and he goes above and beyond, genuinely listening to and imparting wisdom to his campers."  “It is apparent how much he truly cares about his campers.  When I see Jacob, I see what a counselor should be.”  “His kids love him and I believe that’s the only criteria needed.”

Jacob was pleased and surprised to be recognized.

In a blog post Jacob did for us earlier this summer, he wrote, “Fitting into the community here has been a very comfortable adventure, including all the inevitable difficulties of being a summer camp counselor. Whenever I encounter problems at Jacobs, they don’t faze me all that much because I know I have a purpose here. The campers really want to be here, and the camp really wants them to be here as well. The intertwining of laughter, leisure, community and Judaism makes Jacobs the fantastic camp it is, and I thank my college roommate with all my heart for letting me know that it exists.”

Congratulations to Jacob, and to all of our counselors, for their outstanding work this summer.
